I miss you guys!
It took a world-class hangover to sit down and write this post. Mexico will do that to you, damn it. It seems that I should be tan and well-rested after a sunny beach weekend in Tulum, and yet here I am, sweating out the hangover shame and clutching a can of sour cream and onion Pringles like my the contents of my stomach depend on it…Will I never learn?
I think we all know the answer to that one.
So anyway, it’s been awhile but nothing has really changed, obviously.
I’m still married. To Jake.
Ala moved to Denver. It sucks horribly, but I’m drinking a lot less without her in DC. (Her absence appears to have no impact on my long-distance drinking, unfortunately.)
Kobe’s still alive too. A few weeks ago he broke into the fridge and tore up our Superbowl party leftovers: three pounds of italian sausages and two pounds of spicy buffalo chicken wings. Not a single bone or shred of Ziploc remained. Naturally he handled it like a boss.
I went to Sanibel Island a few weeks back with my mom and some of my British relatives. I’m just going to put it out there: I don’t get that place. I couldn’t figure out what we were meant to be doing – sleeping on the beach? Collecting shells? Waiting to die? Securing a packet of Skittles required a twenty minute bike ride, which seemed borderline uncivilized.
Anyway, you know I hate the comeback posts and this one is no exception. I don’t know where the weeks have gone but one way or another, they’re flying by. And even though the evidence suggests otherwise, I actually hate not blogging. There are times it gets stuck on the back burner along with stuff like non-urgent homework assignments, scheduling the dog’s vaccinations, paying my cell phone bill, and so forth, but unlike those things, which can remain undone for months without any remorse whatsoever, I feel a little off when I’m not writing here.
And for the record, I appreciate the comments I’ve gotten from some of you saying how much you’ve been missing me whenever you’re really bored at work. I fully understand how awful it is to reach the end of the internet before the close of business hours, and I’m going to try to show up here more often to give you have at least a few extra minutes of workplace entertainment during those desperate times.
With that, I’m shutting this down.
Happy Monday, everyone. I hope your week is off to a great start.
